The Fold: Ooey Gooey

Above: Self Love 1: Horizons Continue Broadening. Reclaimed garments and household linens, commercial cotton, silk, wool. Machine pieced and hand quilted.

Hi friends! The last issue of The Fold was, like, so serious. So this week I’m lightening the mood a little.

News: Self Love 1 is headed to a show!

For the month of March, the Oklahoma City Public Library (Downtown branch) will have an art show to honor Women’s History Month. My quilt Self Love 1, shown above, will be in the show. I’ll share more event details as we get closer to March.

OOEY GOOEY GOODNESS

Just for you, Dear Reader, I have compiled a playlist on YouTube that is all squishy, drippy, slimy, oozy, mushy, melty, and gooey. Yes it’s G-rated.

Click here to watch the whole playlist (about 2.5 hours).

Sarah, I don’t have that kind of time.

I get it.

Here are the videos that are just about pigments:

Mr. Rogers takes us to the crayon factory

Inside a 300-year-old pastel workshop

How the best colored pencils are made

What’s the deal with oil paint

Here are the videos that are just about foods:

* You will want a snack

The Omurice Guy

How burrata is made

Making chocolate truffles

Making many different kinds of pastries

Making hard candy the traditional way

Finally, here is an hour of slime. Just slime.

I'm changing how I use social media. Let's connect.

You can find me on my website, Bluesky, Mastodon, Pixelfed, and Cara.

Lately I’m Enjoying…

Reading: A Half-Built Garden by Ruthanna Emrys

If you want a good sci-fi read but you’re not into the whole OH NO ALIENS PEW PEW SMASH EXPLODE PEW PEW PEW vibe, this book is so thoughtful and refreshing. It’s about first contact with aliens, but from feminist, queer, trans, and poly points of view. It also tackles big questions about the future of human life on Earth.

Watching: Chappell Roan telling the music industry that artists need a living wage and accessible health care.

Reading: How to Keep House While Drowning by Kc Davis

If you like books about self care and organization, this is the most compassionate one I’ve read. (Even more so than Kendra Adachi’s The Plan.) Davis gives us a trauma-informed approach to caring for your body and your home, even if life feels so heavy that you can’t get out of bed. It’s a great companion to You Gotta Eat.

Crunching: Chips & salsa. For a long time I didn’t eat these because my digestive system couldn’t handle them. Lately I’m well enough for even spicy salsa, and I’m celebrating by eating lots of it with lots of chips.

A GIF For Those Who Read This Far

Remember, friends don’t let friends go from hungry to hangry! Pack snacks.

See you soon,

xoxo Sarah
